Dek Shield

Dek Shield from Puhos is a new, innovative flooring solution designed for internal and external use in joisted or floating floor construction.
Dek Shield prevents moisture ingress during the construction process, helps keep floors flat, has 'best in class' slip resistance and is an ideal key for final decorative floor coverings.

  • 18mm Dek Shield panels should be used over 400mm spacing and 22mm panels over 600mm spacing in domestic loading condiditons.

  • Take special care when handling plot lot deliveries as they may not feature site proof packaging, as do larger ex works pallets.
  • Follow basic practice concerning site handling, expansion gaps and laying instructions as outlined above.
  • Floor joists or beams should be secured and braced before starting to lay Dek Shield boards. Any standing water on surface flanges should be wiped down.
Application Gun

  • Use the Weather Dek 2 application gun to apply a 6mm x 6mm bead of Weather Dek2 Fast-Fix bonding adhesive centrally to the face of the upper flange, in 600mm lengths, for the first run of boards. 330ml cartridges for skeleton guns are also available if preferred.
  • Fix the boards within 30 minutes of the bonding adhesive being applied to the flange. Do not drag boards excessively during fixing.
  • Lay the tongued and grooved Dek Shield boards with long edges at right angles to the beams. The short edges must fall centrally on a beam flange, should not cantilever and must be supported around the perimeter.

Dek Shield

  • Glue all tongued and grooved edges with an ample bead of adhesive applied to the grooved edge and a smaller bead applied to the top edge of the tongue. This is an important procedure when boards are used in exterior locations. When boards are offered together the adhesive should be seen to squeeze out of the joint. This will form an edge seal after curing. If weather conditions on site are uncertain or heavy rain forecast it is strongly recommended that joints are also covered with Weather Dek tape. This will ensure that the edge seal remains intact.
  • The first run of boarding should be in place and square. One 55 mm Weather Dek2 annular ring shank nail should be fixed 50mm from the perimeter edge. Hold the boards in place by secret nailing, twice per board, through the tongue of the long edge at a 20 degree angle. This also avoids board movement when further rows are fixed.
This fixing instruction is in line with the UK Timber Frame Association EWP Code of Practice

  • Fix the second and subsequent rows of boarding using the same method except that nailing through the board face is unnecessary. Only secret nailing through the tongue of the long edge, twice per board, is required. On the last row of boarding, one 55mm Weather Dek2 annular ring shank nail per beam should again be fixed 50 mm from the perimeter edge.
High Performance Tape

  • After the complete floor is laid tape all perimeter and exposed edges using only Weather Dek2 high performance tape.
  • Floors should be left to cure for a minimum of 24 hours prior to use as a walkway.
  • Ensure the tape is applied in clean, dry conditions. Always use the Weather Dek2 tape roller applicator and ensure all tape is fully bonded to the board surface. Tape should be folded over exposed perimeter board edges prior to fixing the boards.
  • Avoid overloading the floor deck with construction materials and avoid standing packs of bricks or blocks on the deck.
  • Follow these instructions to ensure correct fitting of the floor and the Dek Shield floor system will provide a high quality floor with a pristine surface that is extremely quiet and durable.
