Timber Industry Award for Puhos 05.10.05 Puhoswood Limited received a top timber industry award at London’s Savoy Hotel recently from former Tory leader William Hague MP. The Timber Trade Journal (TTJ) Excellence in Marketing Award 2005 was won by the Hertfordshire firm for its Weather Dek2 flooring system now used by housebuilders in 40 per cent of new build homes.
Picturered ( left to right) are: Andy Moore, managing director Puhoswood, Michael Thompson, managing director of the company's manufacturing partner Preseal Boards, William Hague MP and Chris Wright, marketing consultant from WSM Wordsworth. Andy Moore said of the award: "We pioneered Weather Dek to enable upper floors to be completed before building the roof. Adding Preseal's waterproof film to the floor panels provides full temporary weather protection allowing work to take place below that would normally stop in poor weather. The floor acts as a safe platform while building the roof and the film peels off on completion leaving a pristine floor finish. The system can save up to three days build time per house," adds Moore. The Puhos entry for the awards, was submitted by the company's marketing consultant Chris Wright of WSM Wordsworth Limited who commented: "The Puhos award shows that marketing is about much more than advertising, PR and promotion. The judges recognised that Puhos had first created a highly innovative new product with real customer benefits. Then it communicated this message with impact and persuasion resulting in substantial sales and market share." Successful marketing has seen Puhoswood, a subsidiary of Finland's leading chipboard manufacturer, grow to become a £30 million engineered flooring business in just five years.
