Puhos Brands Raw Material for Structural Flooring 20.10.05
Not all chipboard is the same, according to Puhoswood Limited which is seeking to differentiate its Finnish product range by focusing on the raw material used to manufacture structural products like its Weather Dek2 flooring system for housebuilders. Puhos has decided to brand its raw material as 'virgin wood fibre' (VWF), coupled with the descriptive strapline, 'sourced from natural spruce and pine residues from Nordic forest sawmills'. The aim is to complement the branding of its products as high quality, problem solving solutions by placing an equally definable value on its raw material quality, reinforcing Puhos positioning as a premium brand. Andy Moore, the company's managing director, believes Puhos is the only flooring panel manufacturer using totally original, pre-consumer waste material resulting in the highest quality base board and PEFC certification. Production complies fully with EN 312/ISO14001 European manufacturing and environmental codes. "We believe greater control over consistency and quality is achieved using virgin material from sawmills integrated into the indigenous forest industry which surrounds the Puhos plant," says Moore. "In our view this makes VWF a preferred material for the manufacture of structural products such as flooring." "I like to think we have led the industry in changing attitudes to chipboard away from its old commodity positioning towards the value added role it fulfils in today's dynamic market place," adds Moore. "Most volume house builders and key opinion formers in the timber trade now take this view," he says. "The next step for Puhos is to turn the quality screw another notch and focus on its raw material as well as added value product development." Weather Dek2 revolution Weather Dek2 from Puhos Board has created a revolution in the way chipboard flooring is used in modern housebuilding. It provides full temporary weather protection prior to roof construction, a platform allowing other trades to work safely beneath and a pristine floor on completion. Many housebuilders save 2-3 working days using Weather Dek2 which now claims nearly 40 per cent share of the new build market. A Weather Dek2 Fast-Fix version uses an exclusive bonding agent direct to engineered I- joists, minimising nailing and eliminating floor squeaks. 22mm Weather Dek2 complies fully with Part E acoustic regulations when sound tested as part of an engineered floor system.
